Here is a super-secret SEO strategy that advanced SEO practitioners use, and I’m very excited to share this with you. This technique is something that small business owners rarely encounter, and few even think of it unless they’re paying a lot of money to some of the best digital marketers. The idea is to buy “aged” domains.
What does that mean? That is when you go onto a site like GoDaddy Auctions looking for domains that people have let go for some reason and, or they’re auctioning them off.
Some people are in the business of building out domains and then ranking them in Google and selling them for profit. However, sometimes there are great domains that have a lot of trust and authority that people forget to renew for whatever reason, or maybe there’s a change in their business or personal life, and they can’t continue.
That can be an opportunity for you. Now you’ve got this chance to acquire these domains that people have already put in all the work. There’s a high chance that when you buy one of these, you could build your business around one of these domains and assume it’s ranking in Google. It’s a fast track way of getting to the top if someone has already done the work for you.
Sometimes you can get these for a very inexpensive cost. One thing that you’ll want to do if you’re looking at these domains is going into a site like the Wayback Machine, which is archive.org, and take a look at the content that was on the site. Make sure that the material is compatible with what you’re doing because that’s going to be extremely relevant in search results.
I also recommend going into a site like SEMrush and check out the traffic and what kind of other links are going to it. Do this to make sure that there wasn’t a rapid drop of organic traffic that could indicate maybe Google had penalized them for something. That’s super important.
Also, if you’re doing this, one other secret technique is to look for content that the site may have had that is already ranking in Google. If you’d take a look at that content on the Wayback Machine, you could replace that content and preserve all the links that are pointing to it. Let’s say there was an article on walking dogs, and that site is no longer online. If you grabbed it quickly and you were to put a similar piece in its place as fast as possible, you could preserve all of that traffic, and the effort that the previous owner had put in.
The exciting thing is you could do this for building links to your existing site as well. You could be seeking out expired domains that have incredible trust flow and authority, and build out as many of these as you can, replacing the original content that’s in your industry and pointing them to your site.
That’s a quick way to boost your rankings in Google. I hope you implement this strategy as soon as possible, it’s a closely held secret in the SEO community, and I’m glad to share it with all the small business owners joining me today.
