Getting Google’s Attention

When you own a website, one of the biggest struggles that you’re going to have is getting Google to pay attention to you. Most of the websites that we build, unless it’s a hot trending topic that you’re blogging about or a product that has a massive ad campaign, can be challenging to get Google to look at you within days of launching. And so one of the biggest questions we get is how, how do we get Google to pay attention?

There are three different ways to get Google to pay attention to you. The first one is going to be your site map, where you tell Google how relevant your content is and how frequently you want them to come back.

The critical thing is when you tell Google what you want, you need to back that up. That means that when Google goes to your site, you really should have new content.

The second way of getting con getting Google to crawl your site is a link building, and that’s on other people’s websites. Link building is an age-old practice of SEO. I don’t think that this is the best way because people have sunken down to a level where they’re creating fake profiles and paying people who are trying to create as many links as they can without paying attention to quality and what they’re contributing to the internet.

If you’re creating spam on other people’s websites, that’s not adding value. Just getting a link back to your site doesn’t help the owners of those other websites, and it can affect your reputation.

A third way of getting Google to pay attention to you is in advertising. When you run an ad, and you have Google Analytics installed on your site, Google is aware of the traffic that you’re getting. Google’s aware of how visitors find you, where they come from and what they’re looking at on your website.

Through the popularity of your pages, Google is thinking, “Oh, Hey, this is something interesting that people want to see. You have a good click-through rate on your ad. And so we’re going to show this in search results.” So one of the quickest ways to get your content up on Google is going to be running advertising campaigns.

However, getting Google to crawl your page is essential because if you’re an eCommerce website, you’re going to be getting customer reviews that you want reflecting in your search results.

You may be wondering how to update your content regularly. There are different ways of getting your visitors to contribute to the page content for you. If you create an active community and you’re actively engaging with your customers, or you’re emailing them and reminding them to leave reviews or post pictures of themselves with your products, that’s a great way to enhance a page.

Just remember, however, that you have a reputation with Google, and when you tell them to come to look at your site, you want to make sure that there are changes that have taken place. Otherwise, you’re going to lose credibility, and it will be hard to get Google to pay attention to you when you want them to.
