Keyword Ranking Strategy

A big concern for online business is how to show up in search engines and on search result pages. Let’s talk about how we actually do that.

There’s going to be keywords in your industry that you’re interested in. I’m assuming that you already have a website and you’re looking to find out if there are any new keywords or how to expand your reach and visibility in the search engines… you’re gonna be looking for new keywords, and there’s a couple of ways to do that.

The first way is to look at what people are searching for. And that’s going to be done with tools like Google Trends or Wordtracker. You may want to go there and type in a phrase and see what related keywords and searches there are.

However, another common way is to look at a site like SpyFu or SEMrush, where they give you a glimpse into your competition. You can see what keywords they’re using and what pages those keywords linked to. It gives you ideas for new keywords. Right?

But the big remaining question is then, how do you rank for those keywords?

An easy thing to do would be to look at the competition and see what their page looks like. But you’ll want to make yours unique. You don’t really want to copy anyone.

The concept though, in order to show up in search engines that I’ve mentioned before is, I think that you should be designing for people. And then if people are converting when they get to your page, then that’s going to be sending the right signals to Google.

The best way to do that is to send warm traffic to the page. So the slow traditional way would be to make sure that 2 to 4% of your content has the keywords and then wait for Google to crawl the page and determine who the right audience is and then let them put you somewhere on page 50 and then move you up or down based on click-through-rate…

Or, my method, you create warm traffic by running advertisement to it. And that could be either Adwords or Facebook ads, or maybe an email partnership with somebody where they sent an email out with links to your offer, or maybe an influencer makes a recommendation on Instagram that drives people to your page, right?

So those are a couple of simple ways. But, you’ve got to make sure though that the traffic is warm.

The way that you warm them up is by giving them the right marketing message or information. Making sure that your problem and solution actually fits the people that are clicking…

When you do that, if you have Google analytics installed on your site, Google is going to be watching the behavior of those people and they’re going to see that they’re staying and that they’re on your page.

That’s exactly what Google wants. Then they’re going to start showing youu in more search results. The more traffic that you can send to the page that is warm traffic then Google is going to say, Oh, Hey, this is really a popular site, or these guys are really solving a problem. Let’s move them up and see what happens.
